INSTALLATION TECHNIQUES: |
|
| |
|
|
| |
- Glass Blocks can be installed in different ways using "fixing adhesive" or mounted on prefabricated wooden, aluminium or plastic panels.
- The use of prefabricated panel is most suitable for restoration and remodeling work on existing buildings.
- During installation, Glass Blocks should not be used as a load bearing structure .Therefore all supporting panels must be self supporting. It is also important to avoid extra structural load on the glass block from above and /or from the side.
- For areas above 4m2 start laying by positioning a vertical steel profile on the lateral support, leaving a minimum gap of 10mm between the steel profile and the claro glass block.
- Reinforcement with 6mm-8mm iron rods is compulsory for areas above 4m2. Reinforcement insures stability and provides extra security.Re-inforcement rods are used horizontally and vertically, avoiding any contact with the glass blocks.
- prepare a normal mortar from "fixing adhesive"- specially formulated for greater adhesion in fixing of glass blocks.
- Use the plastic spacers to reduce installation time and to ensure uniform spacing between the glass blocks. For a large area we recommend 8mm spacing between glass blocks, while we recommend 6-8mm spacing for small areas.
- After application, wipe off excess paste(mortar) with a damp cloth and remove the outer plate of the spacers(cap) before grouting. It is advisable you allow the mortar to dry before grouting.
